I am 65. I was diagnosed with pinched sciatic nerve on right side. I have a screw from a lumbar fusion in2004 that has come undone. I will have surgery done next month. I am taking flexibility, 800 ibuprofen, norco and I start on steroid pack tomorrow. My question is my ankle and foot are swollen. Is that something to aware of? I have put ice on it. But it was numb and hurt from nerve. Now this has happened. I was a little concerned, also will the steroids have the swelling. My doctor usually swelling is not associated with it.
Pain and numbness has made you use your ankle less which caused muscle weakness
Strengthening of your calf muscles and ankle pump exercise will help you reduce swelling
Ankle swelling will not affect your lumber surgery

This type of swelling in your foot is due to localized joint problem or electrolytes imbalance ..
The steroid will not increase that swelling..and if it is due to joint inflammation it will possibly heal it.
İf the swelling did not become better by ice..elevation and anti inflammatory drug..then you will need to see a specialist for some kidney checkup.
Nothing to worry so far.

such swellings usually occur due to hypoproteinemia or localised ankle related issues.
renal dysfunction also can cause this.
get kidney function tests done.
if these tests are within normal range,then you need not worry.
you can go ahead with surgery.

LUMBAR SURGERY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANKLE OR FOOT SWELLING.
STEROIDS MAY AFFECT THE ANESTHESIA RISKS.
TAKE ANESTHESIA FITNESS BEFORE HAND.
OTHERWISE,SURGERY CAN BE DONE WITHOUT RISKS.

such swellings usually do not cause any problems as far as lumbar surgeries are concerned.
consult a physician and do find out the cause of the swelling though.
