Developed a rash just below right corner of mouth, Please advise?

Developed a rash just below right corner of mouth. It started out with small rough bumps. I put rubbing alcohol on it and it caused it to dry out and open up. There is a small amount of clear liquid that came out. My glands in the right side under my jaw are swollen and sore as well. The area of the rash has slight swelling as well. Also, the rash has a minor tingling sensation, but not sure if that could be the neosporin I put on it. Please advise.

Hello. Sounds like a cold sore caused by Herpes simplex virus. You can take Ibuprofen (Advil) or aspirin to help relieve the pain. You can also use salt water to gargle. There are other OTC medications available. Should resolve by itself soon. Unfortunately there is no cure. Cold sores return. Be careful, it is contagious. If situation persists or returns often you should consult for prescription medication. You can send us a photo if you need confirmation. Thank you for your question.

Hi..
The symptoms that you have explained is due to Angular chelitis..

It is rash, cracks or bumps and inflammation at the corner of the mouth..

It can be due to number of causes like fungal infection, saliva accumulation, viral infection or herpatic cold sores, nutritional deficiency etc..

So you should get the cause ruled out..

Neosporin can help if it is bacterial infection..

So the cause needs ruling out first..

For now do cool compresses over it.
Apply petroleum jelly..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
