Every time I pass a stool I have a sharp knife – like pain on the right side of my anus?

Every time I pass a stool I have a sharp knife – like pain on the right side of my anus and then for a few hours after it is a gnawing almost unbearable pain. I get this exact condition every 1 – 2 months and symptoms last about a week, any idea of how I can fix this or what it could be ?

Thanks

Pain when passing stools with no blood present can be caused by either Anal Fissures or Endometriosis. Anal Fissures are diagnosed with inspection. High fiber and increased water intake can help with Anal fissures. In your case since it recurs every month or two – and may be associated with menstrual cycle – you should get checked for Endometriosis which is caused by tissue growing outside the uterus. A pelvic exam and ultrasound is recommended. Medication and Hormone therapy can help with Endometriosis.

Just had a feel and the skin on the right side is extremely tender to touch and itchy, under the skin there seems to be swelling/bulge is this still in line with what you think? Forgot to mention it hurts much more when I sit down (almost unbearable) compared to if i walk around, there’s no visual signs of cuts/fissure.

I also read that fissures and herpes can have similar symptoms, could this be herpes???

Hi.
Thanks for the query..

Well from your explanation it looks like either Anal fissure and if you can see any bulge at the anal opening then it can be a Hemorrhoid.

You should consult a Proctologist and get evaluated.

A clinical examination and if needed a Sigmoidoscopy can be done.

For now you can apply steroid ointment and do sitz baath.

Avoid spicy foods and drinks more of fluids
Take plenty of fibres in diet

Hope this helps..

Regards.

Self Diagnosis is not the way to go. You should consult.
