My dad of 71 suffered a stroke 2 plus yrs ago. This left him paralysed down one side, incontinent, poor speech and soft diet. He has not had his bowels open now between 3/4 weeks. Been on laxatives but nothing’s working. Does he need to be hospitalized?

Hi..
Yes he needs immediate medical attention and suppositories or enema should be given to clear his bowels..
This should be followed by regular bowel clearing program if still he is not able to clear his bowels with or without laxative..
Also some physiotherapy and increasing fibres in diet under his doctor’s supervision can help in improvement..
Hope this helps..
