I want to start a testosterone replacement therapy. My main concern is the impact to my kidneys.
One year ago I was found with a cancer in one of my kidneys. I underwent a partial nephrectomy which succeeded. Now, I have 1 whole kidney and 0.6 of the other. They work properly and I do not have any sign of cancer (whereas I will be doing exams every 6 months for the next 3 years).
I have to add the whole kidney has 2-3 cysts, but apart from that my kidneys work completely properly.
My questions are: Is the use of testosterone toxic for kidneys? Does my condition (apart for the extra burden due to the deficit in volume of kidneys) entail higher risk? Would you suggest the use of testosterone in such a case?

Testosterone Replacement Therapy has shown to be effective when dealing with ED and low libido. As well as other performance issues. A blood test with total testosterone levels of less than 300 ng/dl would indicate that a TRT may be recommended especially if there other general signs of low testosterone – fatigue etc.. There are however risks. TRT has been shown to enlarge Prostate, increase water retention and possibly increase risks of Prostate cancer. Hi. Thanks for the query.. TRT is seen to cause stimulation of the prostrate gland that can lead to increased urination while in some cases there is drastic reduction in urine frequency.. All of this can inturn effect the already compromised kidneys.. So if you wish to start TRT you should first of all consult your Physician/ Surgeon and get evaluated. Do you actually need TRT or not and how much is you testosterone level has to be checked.. You should get assurance before you start TRT.
