Arthrosis of the hip joint (coxarthrosis) and running?
I am a 32 years old male, and my diagnosis is arthrosis of the (right) hip joint – coxarthrosis. I am a marathon runner, and I also swim and bike. My orthopedist told me that this condition is not caused by running, but genetic (hereditary factor).
I have a “simple” question: Is my running over?
It is not caused by running bit it is influenced by it..The rapid changes in position and/or the impact and jarring of these activities can cause flares of arthritis and worsen arthritic damage. Avoid running, jumping and positions that cause wide spreading of the legs.
Thanks.
In my opinion you have 2 options
First physical therapy in the form of gluteus maximus and adductors strengthening , streching of quadriceps and ileopsoas muscle
Second option is total hip replacement
Both options should allow you to continue running
Good Luck
hi
unfortunately,the answer is yes.
the avascular necrosis of the head of femur is in stage 2-3 and irreversible.
running will cause more wear and tear of the hip joint cartilage leading to more destruction.
hip replacement- either partial or complete… is inevitable
thanks
HI
THE XRAY SHOWS THAT THE SHAPE OF THE FEMORAL HEAD IS FLATTENED TO SOME EXTENT.
THIS NEEDS SURGERY.
HIP RESURFACING IS THE BEST OPTION.
AFTER SURGERY,YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO RUN AS YOU USED TO DO BEFORE.
EXTREMELY SORRY
hello there
running days are not over completely as yet.
but this needs to be confirmed by doing an MRI of hip joint.
only Xray won’t show the damaged cartilage.
you may need a replacement surgery later on
Running is not forbidden, buts it s better to do physiotherapy to strengthen muscles surrounding the joints..
