I am in my 31st week of pregnancy and just had an ultrasound done before yesterday. The results indicate that there is a “TYPE A” cord around the neck. I am worried crazy about this. Is there a danger to my baby? What does Type A mean?

Hello. An Ultrasound result which shows there is a cord around the baby’s neck is in fact quite common in pregnancy. The condition falls into 2 categories: It can be a type A or a type B. If it is a Type A condition, this is common and normally disentangles and resolves by itself. Type B is a serious issue and requires attention. Type B may reduce the blood supply to the fetus and may cause hypoxia. Consult your gynecologist. Regards
