I have nitrites in my urine, what does that mean? I had a urine sample sent to a laboratory and was told they found nitrates. Does that mean there is a problem?

Nitrites in the urine is usually found when there is a bacterial infection. This is done using a test called urinalysis. Bacteria in urine means there is a UTI – Urinary Tract Infection. To confirm what kind of bacteria is involved your doctor will probably want to follow up with a urine culture and prescribe the appropriate antibiotic.
