I was diagnosed with chlamydia back in July after contracting it in March. I got treated and took 1 gram of Azithromycin in a single dose.
Over the last few months I have been experiencing pain during sex and more painful periods. I went to an STD clinic to get retested and they suspected I had PID.
I was subsequently prescribed doxycycline twice a day for two weeks. In this time my test results back and I was found negative for chlamydia and everything else.
Was the doctor correct in diagnosing me with PID? And, if so, has she prescribed me the correct medication?
Thanks
Hi and welcome to question doctors.com
Seems the answer is yes… If your doctor has diagnosed it as PID she gave a suitable antibiotic and the results returned fine after all..doxycycline is a good treatment choice for Paid and other infections… Your pid was not so bad …
Great to know that you are finally better but you need to get a strict hygiene habits to prevent any recurrence..
hi
If presently if you have no pelvic pain and if the sex is no longer painful, then the diagnosis of PID was correct. Doxicycline may have helped reduce the inflammation inside the pelvis. Though doxicycline is not just PID-specific,it can cure any type of infection as it is known to be a broad spectrum antibiotic.
Thanks
HI
ITS HARD TO TELL RETROSPECTIVELY WHETHER YOU HAD A PELVIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE UNLESS YOU HAD A SCAN DONE BEFORE STARTING THE DOXYCYCLINE DOSE. MANY OTHER PELVIC CONDITIONS ALSO CAN MIMICK THE SYMPTOMS OF A PELVIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN RULED OUT BEFORE STARTING DOXYCYCLINE DIRECTY
hello there
If all your symptoms are gone away and if you have no pain, then doctor has given you correct medicines. But,whether it was chlamydia, any std or a pid cannot be commented upon. Pelvic inflammatory disease can be treated by anti inflammatory medicines without giving antibiotics like doxycycline in early stages. So only pid as a diagnosis ,cannot be surely confirmed in this case
