Received punch in the face, caused nerve damage, is recovery possible?

I broke my jaw due to being punched and it caused nerve damage in my face.
My lip and chin have been affected.

MY question is this , its been over 1 month and i’m losing hope. The chin and lip area feel very strange. I can feel cold and hot in those areas and feel sensation when rubbing (like a pen cap) across the area … but the tightness in my lip /and chin are driving me crazy . Feels like there is a rod inside my lip/chin . Are these all good signs of healing ?

I know you can only speak in general terms without seeing everything , such as ct imaging , the doctors, who are only plastic surgeons think I should be ok , but I cant help but to wonder since this is not their specialty .

I’m not sure what stage of damage was done to the nerve, but with this type of injury are these signs of recovery and do you know how much longer it will take ?

And since I can feel some feeling there, is it going to keep gradually returning or just stops ?
Because it improved a bit and now feels no different over the last 3 weeks or so

Thanks for your time and any help at all will be greatly appreciated

Hi
In order to figure out whether healing of the nerve is taking place or not .. there must be a NCV test or EMG as the nerve injury differs from a case to another..some injuries heals on its own from weeks to months according to the degree of degeneration of the nerve…and other injuries may be complete damage of the nerve which is not going to heal…
generally having some sensations getting better than before is a good sign but this is not enough…
doing physiotherapy for your face muscles and nerve stimulation would help you recover faster…

hi.. the injury seems to be a major one affecting your jaw and the nerve. After around a month of injury, the tightness that you feel is a pretty normal sensation and is a good sign of recovery. Bones recover faster, approx 40 days, but nerves take almost 90 days to heal completely. You are still in rearly stages of recovery. A ct/mri/xray would have been ideal, so that i could have guided you better.Another good sign is that you do feel sensations in the damaged area. That means the nerve injury is incomplete and is reversible and curable. You can… Read more »

So its of course a good sign I feel less numbness and some sensation
and you are saying it will gradually keep coming back more and more?
So I shouldnt be alarmed at not much improvement in the last 3 weeks from the
initial sensory improvement ?

Dr Mahaveer , the tightness, and feeling or something in my lip/tightness are actually good signs?
Will this eventually settle down and go away so I can comfortably smile and talk again ?

Thanks for any advice

What kinds of physiotherapy should I do ?

Hi
Absolute numbness and lack of sensations is a bad sign. Tightness in lips is because of initial stages of soft tissue healing and fibrosis. At this stage stretching and physiotherapy can cause much better and faster improvement.
The reports will tell how much u will recover. Consult a good physiotherapist

HI
THE TIGHTNESS AND SIMILAR SYMPTOMS THAT YOU ARE FEELING ARE SOMETHING TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT. IT CAN BE DUE TO ABNORMAL FIBROSIS UNDERNEATH THE SKIN AND THIS MAY WELL REMAIN LIKE THAT FOR QUITE SOME TIME.
INTERNAL NERVE INJURIES ONCE CAUSED ARE DIFFICULT TO HEAL COMPLETELY
