Female age 5 diagnosed with normocytic anemia. Ferritin and rediculocyte levels are normal. Hemoglobin is low and white blood cell count and platelets are high. Child is frequently tired and prone to illness. No known cause of bleeding, no rash, fussy eater, has alopecia areata and enlarged tonsils. What is the cause of her anemia?

In her age it is mainly congenital
But i need you to check her for thyroiditis (u said enlaged tonsils ) may be it is not tonsilitis , could be thyroiditis from an infection
If it is not then i am sorry to say it is congenital

common childhood normocytic anemias are the result of acute bleeding, sickle cell anemia, red blood cell membrane disorders and current or recent infections..
With your daughter it is probably genetic or secondary to an infection.could be tonsillitis or thyroiditis..

I suspect early iron deficiency anemia , i recommend you to do. Serum iron, total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), and serum ferritin
High levels of WBCs due to tonsillitis, take the suitable antibiotics
High platelets .. have no explanation in the mean time but doing a follow up CBC afterva month would be useful.
