(My name is … female) 25, No special medical conditions. Ballet Dancer, previous sprained ankles.
I went to a theme park and did an activity where I took a 10 meter jump onto a soft landing pad (ones where they put below lumpers off a building in movies) and my ankle felt a sharp pain. I found out that it was slightly fractured, but I am not sure whether to go for surgery or not as I have both options. I have attached a detailed scan summary and 2 x rays. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!
For me I think surgery is going to be a mess.. The fracture and the partially torn ligament can heal with casting for 6-8 weeks period and getting some analgesics and anti inflammatory drugs.. After this you can start weight bearing partially with physiotherapy till you gain full Range and power.
Thanks ..and I wish this helps you.
Surgury can cause have risks for your dancing career , but it will provide faster recovery
Cast will take 6 weaks but you will able to regain your preformance within 2 weeks after cast safly
hi
i am an orthopaedic surgeon and at our clinic we have successfully treated patients with such type of fractures and ligament injuries by plaster cast immobilisation and strict non weight bearing.
This should be done for atleast 4-6 weeks.
Taking calcium and vitamin D tablets will speed up the recovery process.
A check Xray has to be done before removing the cast to confirm union.
The fractured fragments are not displaced and i do not see any reason for a surgery.
Surgery will cause more harm than benefits.
thanks
HI
I DO NOT FEEL SURGERY IS NECESSARY.
ANY JOINT SHOULD NOT BE OPERATED UNLESS IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY TO.
IN YOUR CASE,SIMPLE IMMOBILISATION IN PLASTER SPLINT IS SUFFICIENT.
hello there
for your profession, twisting stress is more over ankle. once operated upon, the ankle joint won’t regain its full strength.
so its better to avoid surgery.
go for conservative line of treatment.
