I’ve had two flare ups where my stomach gets extremely extended?

Hello,
Recently I’ve been having a lot of stomach problems. In the past month or so I’ve had two flare ups where my stomach gets extremely extended (looks like I’m about 6 months pregnant and none of my pants fit) for three to four days. I have normal bowel movements during that time and am able to pass gas although it feels like trapped gas. No amount of tums help. This last time I developed a light rash on my upper abdomen (almost like a band where it reached around to my back). I went to the Doctor the first time and was told it was a bacterial infection. It went away the next day. Could I really have had another bacterial infection or is there something else going on? I definitely have IBS but nothing this bad before.

hi
The bacterial rash seems to have nothing to do with the underlying abdominal complaints. The flaring up of abdomen is due to the gaseous bloating. Check out if you have lactose intolerance so that you can avoid eating stuff that causes such gaseous distention.Get ultrasound abdomen done to rule out other pathologies.
Thanks

Hi and welcome to question doctors.com
Going across your history it seems you are having surely IBS ..bacterial infection can strike any time specially if not well treated firstly..
So you need to be careful about where and what you eat..avoid junky food..caffeine ..and fatty foods..get probiotics as yogurt an skimmed milk.. And fresh fruits will help ..

HI
ANOTHER BACTERIAL INFECTION SEEMS TO BE LESS LIKELY. SUCH INFECTIONS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH HIGH GRADE FEVER,AND TAKE ABOUT 3-5 DAYS TO GET CURED. VIRAL DIARRHOEA IS A POSSIBILITY AND ITS QUITE COMMON TO GET THIS IS YOU ARE LOW ON IMMUNITY.
THE RASH YOU MENTIONED CAN BE DUE TO THIS VIRAL INFECTION

hello there
recurrent bacterial infections are quite common if you do not eat hygienic food and eat junk food commonly. an associated weak gut mucosa will make it more prone to get infected easily. Lots of probiotic tablets, bland diet and antibiotics should help.
