My 11th rib pulled out of place, is there a medical procedure to put it back?

26yr old male – rib injury about 4 months ago in which the front part of my 11th rib pulled out of place.
I was told originally that after a couple months this would heal and come back in place with proper healing procedures. However 4 months later and it is still in same placement (out of place).
Is the 11th rib since its floating, once out of place always going to be out of place? Or is there a medical procedure to put it back in place?

Hi ..thank you for posting on question doctors.com on The 11th rib is already floating rib so it may be left in place if it is not causing any impact on other tissues surrounding it .

If 11 rib is pulled out of place there is no reason to asume it will heal and come back in place
In my opinion your only safe choice now is relocating it under general anesthesia
Then rib will be immobilised in place with bandage

Good Luck

Hello Dr. Ahmed Fawzy

Thank you for answering my question.
When you say relocating…how is this done? is there a incision made where they add screws or plates or do they simply move it back in to place? I wonder how it would stay in place since the ligaments that held it before were probably torn.

Thank you

hi,
relocating the 11 th rib, without any pressure symptoms and pain is unnecessary.
If at all,it has to be relocated,it has to be done surgically.
You will have a big scar mark and a metal implant inside your body and that is very much unnecassary i feel,.
Thanks

HI
NO NEED TO PUT IT BACK AS LONG AS IT IS PAINFREE.
THERE IS PROCEDURE,YES,BUT IT WILL MAKE YOU FACE SERIOUS ANESTHESIA AND SURGICAL RISKS

hello there,
there is a surgical procedure to put it back . but cannot be done endoscopically and needs open surgery and steel metals to be put inside. quite cumbersome actually.
better to just use a rib supporting belt.
