Good day. I have a son, age 14. He was diagnosed with Charcot Marie Tooth disease type 2a1 about 8 years ago – we did genetic testing, and it is the MFN2 gene. he is wheelchair bound, with little use of his hands and legs. However, for the last few days he is also getting a “constricted’ feeling in his throat. Is this ‘normal’ for this disease? It does not last very long – about 5-10 minutes. I am obviously a bit concerned. Regards.

Hi
The throat constriction feeling is not related to CMT 2a1, It can be related to simple throat soreness or side effect of one of his medication
Good Luck
Hi, yes it was reported that patients with CMT disease may also experience difficulty breathing, swallowing or speaking if the muscles that control these functions are affected by Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.
Hi..
The symptoms of throat congestion are due to the disease only andany individuals can observe dysphagia with it..
Consult his Physician for proper management..
