I have trouble falling asleep, is Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) a solution?

Question: I have trouble falling asleep and suffer from anxiety, is Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) a solution? I heard that ASMR is used by people to help with anxiety and sleep problems. I really don’t know if Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response is a fad or just fake. Should I try it?

Answer: Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is an experience which is not well documented nor has been studied in depth by the medical field. ASMR is basically a sensory experience felt by some people – not all people – when watching a specially designed video which elicits a calming “tingling” sensation localized to the scalp and neck – this works for some people only. It is said that it does help with anxiety and sleep disorders because it creates a meditation like effect. Should you try it? I don’t think it can hurt, so why not. You can search on YouTube for these kind of videos….have fun!

I have pain not only in my hand but from my leg up to my neck.

Question: Hello. I am a 39 year old. Male. I do some activities like dancing and recently I think I pulled a muscle or maybe twisted a nerve in my arm and right hand while dancing. But the result was pain not only in my hand but from my leg up to my neck. Pain is precisely in neck, shoulder, arm and hand.  And I am quite worried about this. A week ago I  had an MRI scan taken and I would like to have an opinion from you, I guess  a second opinion. I uploaded the results. Please provide best possible answer. Thanking you in advance.

Answer: Hi. Thanks for contacting QuestionDoctors.com. Based on the information you have provided and uploaded, I can see your MRI indicates:

  1. Disc bulge indenting the theca at c4/c5
  2. Disc protrusion indenting the theca – left lateral recess at c5/c6
  3. Degenerative cervical disc disease.

In  my opinion, development of the degenerative cervical disc disease results from the cervical spine fractures.

Sensory pain radiates in the direction of the cushioning discs and nerve roots involvement. The pain you feel along your neck, shoulder, arm is probably caused by c4/c5 involvement. The pain you feel specifically in hand is probably caused by the  c5/c6 involvement.

Naproxen can be used to help alleviate degenerative cervical disc disease.  Tens machine can also be used to help with the pain. Your doctor may recommend the use of Baclofen and calcium. I would also recommend you consult with a Physio Therapist who may suggest further treatment and the use of a cervical collar and hot/cold compress treatments.

Is back pain, discomfort or soreness a common sign that shows lung cancer?

Hello there doctors, I am a 31 year old woman, and I experience pain in my back. I need to find out know about the possible connection of back pain to lung cancer and if it is a cause of lung cancer. My family history has zero signs of cancer.I do not smoke and have not done so for over 16 years. No real vices – no alcohol – tobacco gum – no drugs, weed or any thing else!!! Rarely eat junk food. rarely go out to restaurants and when I do its good expensive ones. Veggies and fruit and fish is my thing . No meat Little fatty stuff. I am slightly overweight but do exercise every so often. I have been suffering from mostly upper back pain for awhile and do suffer from Vitamin D deficiency which I am now addressing with D supplements Lately the pain has become more severe in the last few days Most often it arises near the center slightly to the right side of the back. There is no coughing symptoms no breathing problems no loss of appetite no fatigue or lack of energy. No pain while breathing or at night when sleeping or lying down. I do have sinus issues which were examined by an Otorhinolaryngology specialist who said it was just drip problems. Is back discomfort a common symptom associated with lung cancer? And what stage does that} usually happen? Exactly what are the probabilities my getting lung cancer if I have back pain?
