Hockey player has ankle problems, tenderness, bruising and a good bit of swelling?

I am a 18 year old female.
I have had problems with my ankle before but never this bad.
I play hockey and ever since I started (around 9years ago) I have had soreness in the bottom my feet and in the joint. Usually during matches I put a thin ankle support on and it wouldn’t be too bad.
But around a month ago I went over my ankle causing tenderness, bruising and a good bit of swelling, although I could still weightbear on it so I thought it would heal by itself. But now the previous pain when playing has increased and it swells up every time. Any advice?

hi
at this age,you should not be having this problem for so long. such long standing ankle problems indicate some chronic underlying bony pathology. this can be as a result of an old neglected untreated childhood injury.
the first thing to do is get an xray done to see if the lesion is bone related or not. consult an orthopedist.
thanks

Hi..
This might be a chronic inflammation due to old injury or fall.of the ankle joint..
You should do heat application .ultra sound therapy and laser.. And get your leg and foot muscles strengthened ..
If a swelling occurred do ice packs and elevate your leg ..
You can do A MRI to make sure the type of injury and its severity ..

HI
YOUR ANKLE LIGAMENTS ARE WEAK CAUSING THE SWELLING. TOO MUCH OF STRESS OVER THE ANKLE CAUSES THE WEAKENED LIGAMENTS TO SWELL UP INSIDE. YOU MIGHT HAVE A OLD UNTREATED INJURY TO THAT ANKLE. AN ANKLE MRI IS RECOMMENDED

hello there
synovitis and cartilage damage seems to have occured. rare diseases like osteochondritis should also be considered. xray and a ct scan will help to see for any bony lesions.
synovial aspiration and chemical examination will help to look for any signs of synovitis
