I believe I contracted Herpes from tanning machine at gym?

I am a 59 year old, extremely healthy female. In 2009 I had a blood panel that came up completely normal and clear for STDs. I am completely not sexually active and have been since 2008, yet a recent blood panel showed that I have Herpes!! How can this be?! I have racked my brain and the only thing my gentiles have touched outside of my home is the side of the tanning machine at my gym as I laid down in it. The bed activity stays busy! It is cleaned between users but not adequately and seldom on the edges where you have to initially sit to enter; there are often smears on the shiny surface. New users enter the bed within 5 minutes of the last so it is still very warm. Is it possible that this is where I contracted Herpes? I am mortified at having this as I never been very active sexually absolutely know I haven’t since 2008. How can this be?

HSV 2 (general herbs) can stay hidden for years, also not all tests can detect it as you need to do the antigen test to be sure, other possibility is that one of the 2 tests was wrong if you did the antigen test the first time
Good Luck

You can get herpes and live with it inactive in your body for years, however what about the symptoms !do you have them ?
If you have symptoms then it could have been dormant for years but of you Dont have symptoms then in my opinion you should do the antigen test..

Thanks for the query..

Well, the HSV 2 or Herpes simplex virus 2 is responsible for causing Genital Herpes.
The virus dies within seconds when coming in contact with air and is also easily inactivated by a number of disinfectants so chances of transmission by tanning machine are less..
So possibly there is some other method of transmission..
For now start antiviral drugs understand supervision of your Physician so that you do not experience outbreak of sores .

Hope this helps..

Another thing that I would like to add is that you should get regular tests done for checking the viral counts like antigen antibody reaction, Polymerase chain reaction etc..
If the viral counts increase then your antiviral medication doses can be titrated.
If you get an eruption of sores avoid any intimate contact with other individuals and also keep your personal belongings like towels, napkins etc separate..

You may have had it long time ago,
I believe it’s better to consult the sexual health clinic to give you the right treatment, u won’t need any further investigation
Don’t worry , it’s management is quite simple
