Hi, We’ve been having problem getting pregnant and have been seeing a fertility doctor. Every time my wife was around ovulation time she would go to the doctor and receive a intra-vaginal ultrasound. When we received the claim it listed, among others, an expensive procedure called “Ultrasound, Abdominal Vessels”. Is this a necessary exam to establish whether she was ovulating? What is this exam normally used for?

Hi
It is usually used to check blood flow in blood vessels , other doctors use it to see umbilical cord arterys, in my opinion it is irrelevant to checking ovulation
Good Luck
hi,
actually this test is done to assess the blood flow through the abdominal blood vessels (arteries and veins).
This has nothing to do directly with the ovulation and infertility.
I suggest you to speak with your doctor and ask for justification over the test.
thanks
Hi..
Thanks for the query..
The investigation that is advised to you is not meant to check for ovulation and the egg formation can be very much checked with transvaginal ultrasound that is carried out during the time of ovulation..
Increase in follicle size and its rupture can be very well ruled out with Transvaginal ultrasolund..
So it is better to consult a Gynaecologist and get a proper advise taken and also ask about the cause for advising her Ultrasound for abdominal vessels..
Hope this information helps..
Regards.
This test is irrelevant to the problem actually..for ovulation you need to run some hormonal tests ,mainly LH ..
Transvaginal US is the master of checking ovulation and its not expensive , i recommend you to check with another gynecologist.
Can u ask your doctor about the reason of this test from his point of view?
